For many years Mackinac Island was the central hub of the fur trade that extended across the continent. Hundreds if not thousands of canoe expeditions started or passed through over the centuries. The men puffing smoke from their clay pipes and sporting the customary red toques as they paddled in unison, usually to a merry tune, travelling to the far reaches of the North American wilds. The Mackinac paddle design is an ode to those adventursome souls.
This design is painted on our Canoeist Heritage Paddle. With an elegantly traditional blade shape these are graceful in and out of the water. They’re perfect for lazy turns around the lake or for gracing the wall of your cabin. Each is a laminated combination of western red cedar, aspen and black walnut, and finished with a durable varnish dip.
