Returns Information

If you need to return an item, please Contact Us with your order number and details about the product you would like to return and we'll get back to you with details about returning or exchanging your product. Please do not return items without first contacting us. Undamaged and unused items will typically be accepted for return or exchange within 30 days of it being shipped. Most of our products are handcrafted using real wood. Every piece of wood has unique variations in grain, structure, and appearance, and we will not accept returns or exchanges for those variations. We do not accept returns or exchanges for customized items. Any and all returns, exchanges, and refunds are at the sole discretion of Sanborn Canoe Co, and a restocking fee may be assessed against any refunds given.

Canoe Deposit

 All canoe orders require a deposit of at least 50% of the purchase price to begin construction.

 Canoe Production/Lead Times

 Made to Order canoes are subject to lead times determined by the model and quantities of canoes that have been ordered. Lead times listed on product pages are subject to change at the discretion of Merrimack Canoe Company.

 Order Cancellation

 Custom boats (including but not limited to: custom artwork, for a floor print or deck plates, and gelcoat colors, or designs not available on our website) will incur a 50% cancellation fee after an order has been placed for a custom item.

 Standard boats

 Order cancellation after production starts but before the boat has been finished will incur a 10% cancellation fee.

 Order cancellation after a boat has finished production will incur a 20% restocking fee.

 Order cancellation after a boat has been shipped will incur a 50% restocking fee + shipping fees that were paid by Merrimack for the delivery or billed to be paid upon delivery.



International Orders

International customers will be responsible for all customs and import fees. When shipping overseas, packages can be held in customs for extended periods, often weeks. Delivery information cannot be changed after the item is sent, and tracking information is typically not updated while the package awaits customs clearance. Please be patient while awaiting your delivery. 

We cannot deliver canoes overseas at this time.


Domestic Orders


Sanborn Canoe Co. ships standard packages using USPS Priority Mail, or UPS Ground, as chosen by the customer during checkout. 



 When purchasing a canoe, one of the main details to be worked out will be delivery. If you live near enough to Winona, Minnesota, we're always happy to have customers collect the canoe in-person, and we'd love to give you a tour of the shop as well. For those further afield, there are two options: Personal delivery, and commercial freight.

Any time we have multiple canoes going to roughly the same part of the country we will deliver batches of canoes ourselves. Apart from being by far the safest way to transport your brand new canoe, this is typically less expensive than building a crate and shipping with commercial freight. With this option we'll simply hang onto the canoe when finished until it's time to make the delivery for multiple customers. Approximate pricing is available below.  Note that these are based on your distance from our shop in Winona, Minnesota.

Because of the much increased chance of damage while shipping a canoe using commercial freight carriers, we do not offer a freight delivery option.
