Best Toiluring Kayak Ever
I’ve been paddling nearly 50 years now all around the world. I’ve owned some of the very best touring kayaks ever made, from the NDK Explorer to the P & H Scorpio and Cetus to dozens of more top of the line boats. In the end, I’d rather have the Solstice. I’m 5’ 10” and 210 lbs with very large legs but I fit in the newer GTS models just fine. I prefer a ruddered boat because I primarily tour and on many of the waters I visit, on long paddles with big ocean currents and swells, doing corrective strikes with a skeg all day just doesn’t make much sense. The rudder on this boat works flawlessly. I also often use a pop up Sea Dog Sail; so again their rudder is just more efficient for me as it often frees my hands. I have always found the fit and finish of CD to excellent and to me the hull design is perfect for what I want to do — just enough upswept bow to handle large swells but not so rockered you lose efficiency and speed on long days of basically point A to point B paddling in flatter water. I find the boat to be very predictable and stable with its 22” beam. I also luv the hatches and volume of the boat for long trips. You could say the hulll design/shape is an older one maybe, but fior me, I find it to be the best one; especially for longer ocean trips and sailing.
