A View Of A Paddle

by Peter

The Sanborn Canoe Company crew spent a few hours in an indoor pool in Winona testing out some new paddles and canoes with our partners Merrimack Canoe Co. One of the most fun things we were able to do was use a GoPro Hero 8 Black to get some underwater video of some of the one-piece wooden canoe paddles we're building for Merrimack.

This view definitely gives us some better insight into what exactly is happening with the paddle as it pushes the water, and also helps illustrate why, for example, a square tip like the one in this footage feels so different in the water versus a beavertail or ottertail canoe paddle.

It's a short little clip, but it definitely has some interesting takeaways for the canoeist.
