The Minnesota is a hard-working paddle with a style all its own. Built using Cherry and Ash hardwoods along the shaft and sides of the blade respectively, this is a highly durable paddle that can push a ton of water, but the thicker midsection of the blade tapers down to the tip, leaving you with a quieter stroke. One of our best sellers, the Minnesota is great for river and lake trips where reliability, power, and durability are key.
Like all Sanborn paddles, the Minnesota features the best grip on the market. Years of care and refinement have delivered a paddle that feels great in the hand even after a long day of paddling, and is easy to grasp even in the trickiest conditions. Our paddles are also normally delivered with the grip unfinished. Ultimately this means you can finish the grip how you prefer; we recommend an oil finish, as it's extremely smooth, comfortable even after a full day of paddling, and it is simple and easy to maintain. It’s a bit more effort, but it’s well worth it. For an nominal fee, we can pre-oil the grip for you prior to shipping, but you'll still want to maintain the grip oil over its life. The Minnesota is available with either straight shaft or a 12° bend. Preferences may vary, but generally a bent shaft will offer a little more overall power and bite in the water, while a straight shaft allows for more deft corrective strokes when paddling. I truly love this paddle. Obviously it’s beautiful but it’s also technically perfect and efficient. The paddle is light weight and digs into the stroke and exits cleanly. Get it bent! And when you’re not in the water you can hang this beauty on the wall.
Beautiful paddle! Todd made me a custom length bent Minnesota last year. Match straight to go with, and shorter for kneeling. New style grip shakes it up a bit, too. This paddle has a bit more heft; not going to let you down when going gets rough.
Absolutely love the craftsmanship in my new Minnesota paddle. It was hand built to my measurements. They stated it would take 6-8 weeks for delivery and that was exactly how long it took. The colors of the wood selected and the fantastic designs were what sold me on this paddle and I hoped it would be built strong enough to really use as a wilderness paddle and not just a looker to use a time or two and then hang up. The shaft is strong and nicely ovaled with a not too thin diameter for getting a good grip. The handles come un-oiled which is perfect. The blades are not too thin and are glass covered for strength and durability. Blade size is great...not too big to wear you out during an all day paddle but large enough to get a great purchase in the water. I'm 110% satisfied with this paddle.
Great quality , smooth and ultralight , obviously made by a craftsman. Highly recommend.
