Paddle Stats:

Blade Length: 19”

Blade Width: 8.25”

Approximate Weight: 23 oz

Our best-selling canoe paddle, the Gunflint is an all-purpose paddle suited for nearly any paddling trip. Weighing only 23oz, the 19” x 8.5” blade gives you abundant power in the water, perfect for fighting a strong wind or a current. The all-hardwood construction is highly durable and the blade is fully fiberglass-reinforced with an epoxy rock guard, meaning this paddle can handle any wilderness trip you throw at it. The squared off tip gives you great purchase even in shallow water.

The Gunflint is available in both straight and bent shaft options. Straight shafts are typically preferred for stern paddlers (the rear of the canoe) for more subtle steering strokes, whereas the 12° bent shaft option will typically be preferred by bow paddlers (the front of the canoe) who are looking to maximize forward propulsion.

Both options feature unvarnished grips. An oiled grip feels warmer and smoother in the hands and is less prone to cause blistering. On the bent shaft paddles is an asymmetrical palm grip; its forward lean helps ensure a secure grip while the soft curves still allow for comfortable rotation in the hand, easing the rotation needed for corrective strokes in the water. The straight shaft grip is symmetrical, and the soft curves make rotation for corrective and steering strokes effortless.

Gun flint paddle

Bought it as a Christmas gift for my husband. It’s such a beautiful paddle he wants to hang it on the wall but he’ll use it paddling on the lake. Very happy with purchase.

This paddle was purchased for a departing employee. It made a perfect gift. This paddle will look great hanging on the wall and pulling through the water. The Sanborn Canoe crew does really beautiful work! It is very fine craftsmanship indeed.

I have been paddling since I was a kid, over 40 years. I generally have used vending branches paddles of several different varieties. I decided to give the ultralight carbon Gunflint a try. I just spent a week in the boundary waters and could not be happier with his paddle. My one surprised paddles now feel like clubs compared to this paddle. Made in Minnesota to boot. You won’t regret it.

I have one!

And it's stunning. Liked it so much I had to try my hand at making my own. Great project for a covid winter. My Gunflint hangs on the wall of my living room. It's art!

Got a standard size for a 2,000 mile trip From Ohio to the Gulf of Mexico back in 2011. Pulled too hard on it shoving off one morning (About 900 miles in) and broke it. The guys got a Wilderness sent out to me right away while I was on the river. I put 1,100 miles on it that trip and hundreds more since, even in rocky shallow rivers, and it is still in fantastic shape and I love to show it off. You guys are the best.
